Beijing Subway Map

This project consists on the redesign of a subway map regarding and mending its existing issues.

Problem with current Beijing Subway Map: The current subway transportation system in Beijing has various factors that make it unsuccessful. For starters, the color palette of what the city is, is not represented appropriately. Tourist Attractions are not illustrated in an appealing manner, or do not have at all. I also believe that some of the transportation lines may follow through in straight lines rather than having curves. China is a very open, wide and geometric city and I believe that should be portrayed in their transportation system maps.

The Beijing Subway Logo was inspired by the idealization of the "Snake" and the meaning it has to the Chinese people. Ancient Chinese wisdom says a Snake in the house is a good omen because it means your family will not starve. This could be taken metaphorically to mean that a Snake could never have a problem with his family starving because he is such a great mediator, making him good at business.

The icons below are the ones that show the tourist attraction within the map. The intention of the icons were to be as simple as they could, since pictographs and icons should be understand as they are in their minimal state.
The color red was chosen because of the significance and importance in the Chinese culture and in Beijing.
